Tokyo 2020 Olympics

A reportage project.

For 6 months in 2021 – at the height of the pandemic – I worked as an interpreter for engineers readying Tokyo Stadium for the 2020 Olympics. The photographs are of my time then, unsanctioned photographs of a historic event, culminating in the Olympics themselves, which were barred to all except for volunteers and workers – including myself.

The project resulted in a simple reportage series, representing a side of the Olympics rarely seen or considered in the public eye: the thousands of workers and volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes of historic events.
